I think it all started from books. Children's books my parents would read me, fairy tales, beautifully illustrated. I hung onto the stories, and all the images that kept popping up in my head. I drew the images on paper, and then the images started telling their own stories. Now I read those very same stories (and a few more) to my own children, and I always have one weird little story or character in my head that just want to jump onto the page.
Over the years, I kept drawing and sketching, and creating things. I wrote new stories to play with, with decor, accessories and costumes. I started to sew and design clothes.. And I never could stop. Around the time my children were born, I made the jump. And Serpentaires was born, first as a haven for like-minded artists, then as my own personal venue for my creations.
Every day I turn the dreamy figures in my head into pieces of reality. I love the feel of manipulating the paper and ink into something new, the three dimensional shape of a carved plate, just as well as I enjoy the structural process of draping fabric on my dress form.
I take great care in choosing my materials, trying to keep the ethical and ecological impact of my work at a minimum. I preferably work with recycled paper, up-cycled materials when I can. I personnally select all my fabrics to only offer you the best quality. All sewn items are made by me from start to finish - they are truly unique combinations or motives and shapes.
I love how hand-printing gives each piece a unique aspect, I enjoy making art and items that each have their individuality, be it through the quality of paper or print or the materials used.
